With Pride celebrations taking place all around the world, Pride Edinburgh 2017 is nearly upon us. Each festival offers something totally unique to each location, and our city’s own is no exception.
Our capital’s pride celebration, which has the theme of “Scottish Diversity” this year, takes place between Saturday 17th – Sunday 18th June and the festivities are kicking off with the Pride Breakfast at Serenity Café between 9.30 and 11.30; the perfect way to ease into the celebrations and make sure you have enough sustenance to survive the weekend. There are also events in partnership with the amazing LGBT Youth Scotland and the Big Fish Little Fish Family Rave at La Belle Angele between 2pm and 4.30pm.
Following their performance at Pride Glasgow last year, the eclectic and talented R&B/pop group Stooshe will be headlining the Edinburgh main stage. They are joined by Fauldhouse’s own X Factor contestant Garry Greig and X Factor alumni Caitlyn Vanbeck, as well as other special guests still to be announced.
Also, don’t miss the Miss Annabel Sings Show at Traverse Theatre on Sunday 18th from 2pm, an anarchic drag show with daytime disco, themed cocktails, fry ups and God willing lip synching in the cozy surroundings of the Traverse Bar Café.
No Pride celebration is complete without a march through the city. The Pride Parade is one of the most exciting and vibrant parades in the city’s calendar. The route for the annual Scotia March, the traditional starting point for all Pride Edinburgh events, begins at Parliament Green on the Royal Mile at 11.00, snakes through the beautiful city of Edinburgh, before culminating at Potterrow Dome. Everyone is encouraged to wear bright colours, hold banners and show off what Pride means for you. Though anyone who marched in Glasgow will join me in advising you wear something waterproof…
Each year Pride Edinburgh offers an entertaining and eclectic weekend of celebration and 2017 is no exception.
